The Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine focuses on the provision of care for patients with lung disorders and critical illness.

Patients with lung disorders may experience shortness of breath, coughing, haemoptysis (i.e. coughing of blood) or wheezing (i.e. noisy breathing). These symptoms may result from a variety of lung disorders such as but not limited to asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, bronchiectasis, lung fibrosis.

The department works closely with other specialities and healthcare providers at Changi General Hospital (CGH) to provide smoking cessation services, pulmonary rehabilitation and vaccinations (e.g. influenza and pneumococcal vaccinations) for our patients. The department also collaborates closely with Singhealth SDDC Lung Centre, National Heart Centre (NHC) and National Cancer Centre (NCC) to provide comprehensive care for our patients. Both cardiothoracic surgery and medical oncology services from NHC and NCC, respectively, have outpatient clinics sited within Changi General Hospital.

The Lung Clinic provides outpatient care for patients with lung disorders. These conditions include Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Pneumonia, Bronchiectasis, Lung Fibrosis, Lung Nodule evaluation and other conditions affecting the lung. Additionally, we also house subspecialty clinics such as the Difficult Asthma Clinic, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Clinic, Pleural Clinic and Non-invasive Ventilation Clinic which provides specialised care to specific groups of patients.

We also provide acute care for patients who are critically ill. These patients require intensive care in the Medical High Dependency unit (HDU) or Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

We are passionate in promoting lung health through public engagement activities such as during the annual World Asthma Day and World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day.
