Overseas Fellowship Programmes at Changi General Hospital

Changi General Hospital offers fellowship and clinical attachment opportunities for overseas medical professionals through the Office of Medical Postgraduate Education. Hands-on fellowship programmes may run for up to 12 months, while clinical observerships are capped at 28 days.

These programmes provide structured opportunities for professional development and clinical exposure in CGH’s care environment. Depending on the programme type and eligibility requirements, participants may be involved in hands-on clinical training or clinical observerships, with exposure to patient care, care planning, clinical documentation and, where applicable, performing procedures.

Many Talents, One Passion: An introduction to the Allied Health Professions

 

This 60-minute session introduces the role of Allied Health Professionals in Singapore’s healthcare landscape and their contributions to multidisciplinary patient care at Changi General Hospital.

Allied Health professionals bring together diverse expertise to support the diagnosis, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with acute and long-term conditions. Their work also extends to disease prevention, wellness promotion and supporting the healthcare system across different settings.

Participants will gain an overview of the Allied Health disciplines at CGH, how they apply scientific principles and evidence-based practice, and how they work alongside doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver holistic care.

Objective(s):

  • Provide an overview of the Singapore healthcare landscape and the development of Allied Health disciplines at CGH.
  • Introduce Allied Health professionals as a specialised group of healthcare workers.
  • Highlight the collective strengths and achievements of Allied Health teams.
  • Show how Allied Health supports institutional, cluster and national efforts to improve population health.

Mental Health Services by Allied Health Professionals

This 60-minute session provides an overview of the Allied Health professionals involved in supporting and promoting the mental health of patients, families and staff in a general hospital setting.

Participants will learn about the roles of Clinical Counsellors, Medical Social Workers, Psychiatric Occupational Therapists and Psychologists, and the range of mental health services and programmes they provide at Changi General Hospital. The session also highlights CGH initiatives that support mental health and well-being.

Objective(s):

  • Introduce Allied Health professions involved in mental healthcare in a general hospital setting.
  • Provide an overview of the scope of mental health services provided by relevant Allied Health disciplines.
  • Highlight examples of mental health programmes and initiatives implemented at CGH.

CGH Sleep Laboratory Tour

This 30-minute tour introduces participants to the operations and patient care processes of the CGH Sleep Laboratory, a specialised service for the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders.

Participants will gain an overview of CGH’s integrative care model for sleep medicine, which supports patients with sleep-related concerns such as snoring, sleep apnoea, sleepwalking, sleep talking, restless legs syndrome, and insomnia. The tour covers how patients are assessed and supported through diagnostic testing, monitoring and personalised counselling.

Participants may also learn about services provided by the Sleep Laboratory, including PAP titration studies, Multiple Sleep Latency Test, diagnostic sleep studies, home sleep testing, home oximetry, CPAP counselling and non-invasive ventilation support.

Objective(s):

  • Introduce the operations and patient care processes of the CGH Sleep Laboratory.
  • Provide an overview of diagnostic testing, monitoring and counselling for sleep-related conditions.
  • Share how CGH’s integrative care model supports the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders.

Integrated Management Programme for Advanced Clinical Therapeutics in Nutrition (IMPACT)

This five-day professional development programme supports participants in strengthening clinical competencies in nutrition care across healthcare settings.

Through evidence-based learning, participants will deepen their understanding of nutrition management for complex conditions, including chronic diseases, gastrointestinal and renal conditions, malnutrition, frailty, and enteral feeding protocols. The programme is designed to help participants translate nutritional science into practical care planning and intervention for different patient populations and clinical scenarios.

The programme combines lectures, interactive workshops, case discussions, role play and gameplay, with opportunities for shadowing and observation of dietetic practice in inpatient wards and specialist outpatient clinics.

To support learning and practical engagement, enrolment is limited to 20 participants.

Objective(s):

  • Explain the pathophysiology and nutritional implications of chronic diseases, gastrointestinal and renal diseases, malnutrition, frailty and enteral nutrition.
  • Interpret nutrition information from sources such as food labels and enteral nutrition formulas to support evidence-based recommendations.
  • Apply nutritional assessment methods and intervention strategies through case studies and practical exercises.
  • Demonstrate nutrition counselling techniques, including motivational interviewing, goal setting, and practical food-based education.

Medical Social Work in Singapore - Working with Older Patients and their Families

This five-day workshop is designed for social workers in healthcare settings, or those working with older adults, with at least two years of experience.

Participants will gain knowledge and skills to strengthen clinical competencies in medical social work, with a focus on working with older patients and their families. The workshop covers the social context and healthcare principles that shape medical social work in Singapore, and explores how these may be applied in participants’ own practice settings.

The programme includes lectures, discussions, case studies, case simulations, shadowing or observations, as well as visits to the Emergency Department, wards and specialist outpatient clinics, and relevant social service agencies.

Class size is limited to between four and 12 participants to support focused learning and exchange.

Objective(s):

  • Discuss the social context and healthcare principles underlying medical social work in Singapore.
  • Explore the application of medical social work practices in participants’ own healthcare settings.
  • Strengthen knowledge, skills and competencies for generic social work practice in healthcare.
  • Develop specialised understanding of social work practice with older adults and their families.

 


Medical Social Work Management

This three-day workshop is designed for social workers in healthcare settings with at least 10 years of experience and who are in leadership positions.

Through lectures and discussions with medical social work leaders from Changi General Hospital and other agencies, participants will examine leadership approaches, management practices, and the intersection of practice, policy and leadership in healthcare settings. The workshop also provides a platform for senior practitioners to exchange ideas on common challenges in healthcare social work, strengthen research and continuing education efforts, and broaden professional networks.

The class size is limited to between four and 12 participants to support focused discussion and peer exchange.

  • Strengthen leadership capabilities in medical social work.
  • Reflect on management skills, leadership styles and values in healthcare social work.
  • Examine the intersection of practice, policy and leadership in healthcare settings. 
  • Exchange ideas and solutions on common challenges encountered in healthcare social work.
  • Strengthen research and continuing education efforts, including support for the publication of studies.
  • Enhance global social work networks among social work leaders.
  • Broaden understanding of the capabilities and possibilities of medical social work. 

Centre for Healthcare Assistive & Robotics Technology

Established with the support of Singapore’s Ministry of Health and the Economic Development Board, the Centre for Healthcare Assistive & Robotics Technology (CHART) brings together healthcare professionals, industry, academia and research institutions to co-develop and testbed healthcare solutions in assistive technologies and robotics.
 
CHART also works with the National Robotics Programme, a multi-agency initiative that supports the end-to-end development of robotics technologies.
