ReXilience® Activity: Filling Up with Joy
Summary

Joy has been shown to be an incredible tool to improve our ability to lead meaningful lives both at and outside of work. There are two reasons for this: people intrinsically seek joy, and joy connects people more powerfully than almost any other human experience (Making Joy a Priority at work, 2019, Harvard Business Review).

Finding joy in your life is an ongoing journey that begins with a set of practices that will ultimately lead you to happiness. Investing in and incorporating short bursts of “feel good activities” in your workday, may improve your productivity and engagement level.

This activity which incorporates art expression and a group discussion, will provide participants an opportunity to:

  • Recognise the positives aspects in their lives
  • Be mindful of everyday pleasures, joyful thoughts and experiences as well as their strengths
  • Increase their sense of well-being and motivation

No prior art experience is required. Participants are encouraged to prepare simple art materials such as paper and colouring materials for the session.

Recommended for Individuals who are interested to reflect on their sources of joy and finding way to incorporate it into their daily lives.
Duration 1 hour

ReXilience® Activity: Finding Calm in Unexpected Spaces
Summary

Stress can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional, or psychological strain. Stress is our body’s response to anything that requires our attention or action. Everyone experiences stress to some degree. The way we respond to stress, however, makes a big difference to our overall well-being (Stress Q&A, WHO, 2021).

To some, a little bit of stress is good as it pushes us to perform. But too much stress can overwhelm us and lead to a fight, flight or freeze response. We have a choice of how we respond to stress. Learning how to cope with stress is important for our mental and physical well-being.

This activity which incorporates art expression and a group discussion, will provide participants an opportunity to:

  • Identify individual stressors and stress response
  • Reflect on how perceptions and attitudes towards stress contributes to how we respond to stress.
  • Focus on their strengths and attributes.

No prior art experience is required. Participants are encouraged to prepare simple art materials such as paper and colouring materials for the session.

Recommended for Individuals who are keen to learn to make stress work for themselves
Duration 1 hour

ReXilience® Activity: Be Your Own Kind Friend
Summary

Being kind to ourselves may not come naturally to most of us. We tend to be our own worst critic. Our culture often places great emphasis on being kind to our friends, family and neighbours who are struggling, but little or none when it comes to ourselves. Self-compassion is a practice in which we learn to be a good friend to ourselves when we need it most – to become an inner ally rather than an inner enemy (Mindful self-compassion workbook, Neff & Germer, 2018).

Be engaged in an activity to learn and experience a way of communicating with ourselves in a more compassionate manner. Take advantage of this opportunity to cultivate a compassionate relationship with ourselves and to set our intention to bring more kindness into our lives in a manner that feels just right for us.

This activity, which incorporates a visualisation and letter writing exercise as well as a group discussion, will provide participants with an opportunity to:

  • Cultivate a compassionate relationship with themselves.
  • Set their intention to bring kindness into their lives.
Recommended for Individuals who are interested in learning to cultivate a more compassionate relationship with themselves.
Duration 1 hour
