The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology provides care for patients with gastrointestinal and liver disorders. This includes peptic ulcer disease, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, functional gastrointestinal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatico- biliary diseases, acute and chronic liver disease (including pre-liver transplant evaluation) as well as gastrointestinal and liver malignancies.

Apart from General Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy, the Department has five main subspecialty clinical services to provide care for patients with more complex disorders listed below:

  1. Advanced Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Services
  2. Hepatology
  3. Inflammatory Bowel diseases
  4. Neurogastroenterology Service and Gastrointestinal Function Laboratory
  5. Nutrition Service

Patients above 12 years of age are seen and managed fully by the department.

The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology provides consultations and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

Outpatient clinics are located at the Digestive Diseases Centre at level three of the Medical Centre. Endoscopy procedures are performed at the Endoscopy Centre in the Main Building and at the Ambulatory Surgery Operating Theatre. Patients who require in-patient care are managed in the in-patient wards of the Main Building.
