Emergency Medicine

Our Location

Changi General Hospital, Main Building, Level 1

Changi General Hospital’s (CGH) Accident and Emergency (A&E) department provides 24-hour care for patients living in the eastern side of Singapore. Our emergency medicine specialists and doctors aim to deliver quality clinical care to patients.

Upon arrival, our triage nurses will facilitate your journey within the A&E, manage the waiting time and help to ensure timely diagnosis and management for all patients.

The A&E Department treats patients across various age groups, ranging from early childhood to the elderly. Although the department does not incorporate Paediatric, Obstetric and Gynaecologic specialities, we are able to provide emergency medical assistance for these groups of patients. When required and appropriate, patients may also be transferred to another hospital for specialised care. Furthermore, with the hospital’s close proximity to the airport, the A&E department also offers medical assistance to tourists, foreigners and locals.

Patients may also be warded in the Short Stay Unit (SSU) within the A&E to aid with investigation, diagnosis, treatment and observation requirements for conditions such as diarrhoea, vomiting, asthma, kidney stones and superficial skin infections. The SSU services are integrated with inpatient clinical functions such as Geriatric Medicine and receive support from physiotherapy services run by allied health staff.

The A&E consultation fee includes coverage for simple blood tests and x-rays, as well as minor procedures such as wound closure (stitching) and abscess drainage.

Patients revisiting the department for the same medical issue need not pay for the re-visitation consultation fee if they are seeking care within 24 hours for the ongoing issue.

Additionally, CGH’s A&E has a GPFirst initiative, partnering with General Practioners on the Eastern side of Singapore.
