Emergency Medicine

Synonym(s):

Changi General Hospital’s (CGH) Department of Emergency Medicine provides 24-hour emergency medical care for patients living in the eastern side of Singapore. Our Emergency Medicine specialists and doctors aim to deliver quality clinical care to patients.

Upon arrival, our triage nurses will facilitate your journey within the Emergency Department, manage the waiting time and help to ensure timely diagnosis and management for all patients.

The Emergency Department treats patients across various age groups, ranging from early childhood to the elderly. Although the department does not incorporate Paediatric, Obstetric and Gynaecologic specialities, we are able to provide emergency medical assistance for these groups of patients. When required and appropriate, patients may also be transferred to another hospital for specialised care. Furthermore, with the hospital’s close proximity to the airport, the Emergency Department also offers medical assistance to tourists, foreigners and locals.

Patients may also be warded in the Short Stay Unit (SSU) within the Emergency Department to facilitate investigation, diagnosis, treatment and observation requirements for conditions such as diarrhoea, vomiting, asthma, kidney stones and superficial skin infections. The SSU services are integrated with inpatient clinical functions such as Geriatric Medicine and receive support from physiotherapy services run by allied health professionals.

The Emergency Department consultation fee covers simple blood tests and x-rays, as well as minor procedures such as wound closure (stitching) and abscess drainage.

Patients revisiting the Emergency Department for the same medical issue need not pay for the re-visitation consultation fee if they are seeking care within 24 hours for the existing medical issue.

Additionally, CGH’s Department of Emergency Medicine has a GPFirst initiative, partnering with General Practitioners to treat mild to moderate medical conditions for residents of the eastern side of Singapore.
