Medical Undergraduate Education

The Associate Dean’s Office at CGH collaborates with local medical universities such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Duke-NUS Medical School and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine to provide certificated clinical degree programmes.

Together with our highly experienced clinician educators, we are committed to ensuring that students’ learning objectives are met, and their learning experiences at the hospital are meaningful. As an illustration, medical students are often attached to a patient’s care team to maximise learning opportunities, while gaining real-life experiences at the same time.

Student Learning Activities

The Associate Dean’s Office supports all aspects of implementation of the undergraduate medical curriculum to enable students in acquiring knowledge and skills in a clinical setting. We also assist program leads and faculty to prepare the program handbooks and teaching materials.

Some learning activities that the office coordinates to aid students in their learning journey include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily clinical rounds
  • Departmental teaching activities
  • Attending clinic/operating theatre/endoscopy
  • Clerking patients and examining patients
  • Involvement in diagnosis and co-management discussion of patients as part of the patient care team
  • Attending scheduled lectures, bedside tutorials and simulation trainings
  • Emphasis on patient safety
  • Job shadowing for final year students

We manage the medical undergraduate education programme, liaising with local medical universities to ensure that programmes offered meet the rigorous demands needed for clinical certification. This ensures that trained medical students become safe and competent doctors who can provide optimum care to our patients.

Undergraduate Activities

The office also plans and coordinates other undergraduate programmes such as:

  • Planning and delivering structured programmes for clinical clerkship
  • Handling local and overseas elective postings
  • Organising clinical exams and revision seminars for medical students
  • Collecting and analysing posting feedback data to drive continuous quality improvement of programmes
  • Student welfare
