Medical Postgraduate Education

"Sir William Osler introduced the natural method of teaching, oriented that exposure to patients and experience over time will help physicians in training to become competent doctors" 1. This influence created the form that medical education is today.

Changi General Hospital (CGH) is also a reputable postgraduate medical training institution offering continuing education opportunities to healthcare professionals. The Office of Medical Postgraduate Education (MPG) is committed to on-going training, development and education of clinicians, where we provide support to facilitate and enable medical education of the continuing generations of medical professionals.

Some postgraduate programmes at CGH include, but are not limited to:

SingHealth Residency Programme

CGH is a participating site for the accredited SingHealth Residency Programme. The programme also supports the training of the formative SingHealth Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) programme.

The wealth of specialisation opportunities presents a diversity of choice for every learner. Fellow colleagues are united by a strong collective sense of service and purpose to care for our patients. We aim to provide a holistic, safe and ideal learning environment for every resident coming to CGH.

The Office of Medical Post-Graduate Education works with the Office of the SingHealth Graduate Medical Education (Residency) to provide the necessary support and coordination for the successful training of Residents to ensure core competencies are fulfilled.

Foreign medical specialists may apply for fellowship/clinical hands-off attachments at CGH.

There are various clinical fellowship programmes that include curriculum to allow forms of real-life training and practice such as involvement in patient care, writing of case notes, communicating care plans and/or performing procedures.

The training period for hands-on fellowship programmes is up to a maximum of 12 months while the hands-off programme is capped at 28 days. All fellows are required to be under direct supervision and must meet the requirements from the Singapore Medical Council. Interested applicants should apply at least 6 months before the start of their intended fellowship.
