Dr Charles Kon is a Senior Consultant with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Changi General Hospital (CGH). He specialises in orthopaedic trauma and foot and ankle surgeries, ranging from joint preservation to foot and ankle reconstructive surgeries; with a special interest in minimally invasive surgery techniques.
Dr Kon obtained his medical degree from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2005 and completed his Orthopaedic training in Singapore in 2016. In 2017, he embarked on a foot and ankle attachment at St. Mary’s Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea. Two years later, he was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) to pursue diabetic foot preservation and foot deformity correction with minimally invasive techniques in Bordeaux, France.
As an educator, Dr Kon is part of the clinical faculty for the SingHealth Orthopaedic Surgery Residency programme and has been a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine since 2020 and a Clinical Teacher at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine since 2018. He is also actively involving in teaching at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in CGH and has chaired courses designed for Orthopaedic residents.
Dr Kon has a keen interest in research, particularly in foot and ankle conditions. In 2016, he received a CGH research grant to further the treatment of plantar fasciitis, and is currently researching on hindfoot and forefoot surgeries and minimally invasive surgeries of the foot and ankle.
