Dr Benjamin Lam is a Senior Consultant with the Department of Family Medicine at Changi General Hospital (CGH). He obtained his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2004, followed by a Master of Medicine in Family Medicine in 2010, and a Fellowship from the College of Family Physicians Singapore in 2013.
With an interest in obesity and metabolic medicine, Dr Lam pursued a Clinical Research Fellowship at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London in 2013, under the Ministry of Health’s Health Manpower Development Plan, during which he also completed a Master of Science in Weight Management. His research work is driven by a commitment to improving outcomes for patients affected by obesity. In 2024, he was awarded a PhD by the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, where he investigated mechanisms underlying obesity across Singapore’s ethnic groups.
Dr Lam is also actively involved in education, serving as a Clinical Mentor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and as a Research Tutor at the College of Family Physicians Singapore. Beyond clinical practice, research, and teaching, Dr Lam served as Vice President of the Singapore Association for the Study of Obesity and continues to contribute as a council member. Dr Lam regularly shares his expertise with other healthcare professionals at national conferences and society meetings.
