Occupational Therapists work to rehabilitate patients whose ability to perform daily living activities have been affected by physical, cognitive or mental health conditions. Our aim is to enable a person to become as independent as possible in their valued occupation, self-care and leisure engagement.
Occupational Therapy offers both inpatient and outpatient services through individual treatment and/or group sessions. Patients are assessed and individualised intervention plans are developed according to patient’s goal and ability.
Inpatient Services
Include but are not limited to:
- Activities of daily living assessment and re-training
- Equipment prescription
- Advice regarding home modification
- Community re-integration
- Caregiver training and education
- Discharge planning
Outpatient Services
Mental Health
Occupational Therapists assess and intervene for patients with primary psychiatric conditions or patients who have mental health conditions secondary to their primary physical illness or injury.
Specialised clinics under this service include:
- General/Liaison Psychiatry – for assessments and interventions including coping skills, skills training, stress management and self-management skills.
- Memory clinic – for patients with memory loss and dementia.
Hand Therapy
This service is for rehabilitation patients with various upper limb conditions including fractures, tendon cuts and repetitive strain injuries. Services provided include splinting, mobilisation, heat therapy, oedema and scar management.
Neurology Therapy
For patients recovering from acute neurological conditions.
Specialised clinics under this service include:
- Integrated stroke program (ISP) – where patients are co-treated with Physiotherapists and Speech Therapists.
- Early Supported Discharge – to facilitate ongoing recovery and community reintegration for stroke patients who are medically well and are supported in their home.
Geriatric Therapy
This consists of occupational therapy services for the elderly. Specific treatment includes activity engagement, activity scheduling and education on disease management.
General Medical/ Cardiology/ Orthopedic Therapy
Treatment for this group is varied and dependent on needs. Services include motorised device assessment and training, functional assessment, equipment prescription, caregiver training, and education on disease management.
Hospital to Home Service
Our therapists are part of a multidisciplinary team, which assists in the successful transition from hospital to home by means of home visits and interventions where appropriate.
