What are the risk factors?

Risk factors include:

Smoking
Heavy alcohol consumption
Chewing tobacco
Poor nutrition especially low in dietary fibre
Plummer-Vinson syndrome (a disease marked by iron-deficiency anaemia, and formation of web-like membranes in the throat causing difficulty swallowing)
