Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a type of bad cholesterol that can increase blockage of blood vessels. People with elevated Lp(a) are 2 to 4 times more likely to have cardiovascular disease. Around 1 in 6 persons who have had a heart attack found to have high levels of Lp(a) – most are not aware that they have this condition.
