Dr Eugene Wong is a Consultant with the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Changi General Hospital (CGH). He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Malaysia in 2010 before obtaining his Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the National University of Singapore in 2013. Dr Wong was the Chief Resident for Internal Medicine Residency (SingHealth) from 2014 to 2015 and completed his Senior Residency in Gastroenterology in 2018.
Dr Wong has a strong passion for improving patient care through clinical research. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and won numerous awards for his research works, including the prestigious Early Career Investigator Award in Clinical/Translational Science by the American Association of the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD) in 2022, and the Healthcare Disparity Award by the AASLD Foundation in 2023. He completed his Master of Clinical Investigator (MCI) in 2021 and was awarded the Nurturing Clinician Scientist Scheme by the Joint Office of Academic Medicine, SingHealth in 2020.
As a research mentor from Duke-NUS Medical School, Dr Wong has also mentored many medical students and junior colleagues in their research projects; leading to award-winning abstracts (AASLD Foundation Fellowship Award 2022, SingHealth Medical Student Talent Development Award 2022, first runner-up for oral presentation in GIHEP 2022, first and second runner-up for poster presentation in GIHep 2022) and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr Wong was awarded the Senior Educator Award, twice, in 2020 and 2022, for his effort in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
