Health Screening

Good health cannot be taken for granted. Our modern lifestyle predisposes us to chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. Fortunately, many of these illnesses can be detected early and treated to prevent further complications such as heart disease, stroke and kidney failure.

Colorectal, breast and cervical cancers are some of the most common cancers in Singapore. Guidelines from the Screening Test Review Committee, Academy of Medicine Singapore advise:

  • Persons aged 50 and above should screen annually for colorectal cancer using Faecal Immunochemical test. This is a preliminary test that detects the presence of small amounts of blood in faeces.
  • Women aged 50 to 69 should undergo mammogram screening for breast cancer every 2 years. Women aged 40 to 49 can consider annual screening.
  • Women who are 25 years old and above and have ever had sexual intercourse should go for cervical cancer screening. If you are between 25 and 29 years old, go for your Pap test once every three years and if you are 30 years old and above, go for your Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) DNA test to screen for cervical cancer once every five years.

Hence, an effective way of keeping track of your health is through regular health screening. At Changi General Hospital, we offer general and personalized health screening based on your gender, age and risk factors.

What Does Health Screening Involve?

Health screening involves the use of tests and examinations to detect disease early in people who look or feel well. This is different from diagnostic tests which are done when someone is already showing signs and/or symptoms of a disease.

Screening is conducted over two outpatient visits by appointment. On your first visit, you will be examined by our doctor to assess your medical conditions, risk factors for various diseases and current health status. Our doctor will also have a discussion with you regarding the suitability of your chosen package. The health screening tests depending on the type of package selected will take 2 to 4 hours to complete.

On your second visit, you will receive a personalized medical report on your test results and overall health status, as well as lifestyle counselling on how you can improve or maintain your health. Where appropriate, our doctors will refer you to specialist doctors for further evaluation and management.
