"I was only 21 when I first started at KKH. Then, I was treating a 22-year-old patient with a congenital cardiac defect. As she originated from a third world country and required a sponsor, her treatment was delayed to a late age.
The complexity of her condition made recovery after surgery very difficult due to organ failure. Yet, in the face of such adversity, she never gave up and continued to fight on. Owing to the multiple complexities, her exercise tolerance and function suffered, making physiotherapy sessions very challenging. Nonetheless, she showed a great determination to get better.
Ultimately, she was able to walk independently and return home. A few months after her departure, she sent a post card saying she was appreciative of my care and aspired to be a physiotherapist. I was so touched by this.
I will never forget her strength and determination. Although there are times that I feel overwhelmed, I will always put in my best effort in caring for my patients."
