Occupational therapists help patients to develop new skills or maintain existing ones so that they can continue to live independently despite illness or disability. Patients learn (or relearn) many of the "ordinary" tasks that are performed every day at home, at work, at school, and in the community.
The aim is to help them establish a lifestyle that is as independent, productive, and as satisfying as possible. Some conditions seen by occupational therapists are stroke, orthopaedic conditions, social and emotional difficulties, and age related problems. Therapists also provide services to prevent injuries and promote wellness.
