Non-Invasive Ventilation Clinic
The Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) clinic supports the management of patients requiring long term non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Non-invasive mechanical ventilation refers to the use of breathing support administered through a face or nasal mask. Patients with chronic respiratory failure such as obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may require this treatment.
We are a multi-disciplinary team of respiratory sleep physicians, sleep technologists, chest physiotherapists and nurses.
Perioperative Care For Sleep Apnoea Patients
Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) have a higher incidence of post-operative complications. Most patients who suffer from OSA do not know they have this disorder.
Patients presenting for elective surgery, who are deemed to be at risk of OSA, are screened and commenced on CPAP therapy for the perioperative period.
This is initiated either in the Surgical Outpatient Clinic at the point of being listed for surgery or after the Pre-operative Anaesthesia Assessment Clinic (PAAC).
This will ensure your surgery is not delayed and the correct management for OSA is prescribed prior to surgery.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for insomnia is a type of psychological intervention involving multiple sessions that are aimed at changing unhelpful sleep-related behaviours and thoughts. CBT is also an effective tool to treat circadian rhythm disorders and other psychiatric conditions.
