Dr. Ng Chung Sien was an ASEAN scholar from 1991 to 1992. He
graduated in 1999 from the National University of Singapore. In 2012, he
obtained his Masters of Sports Medicine from the University of
Queensland Australia graduating with high distinction. Dr. Ng is the
first physician in Singapore to complete the Sports Practitioner
training program for sports medicine in Changi General Hospital. He
currently practices sports medicine in SSMC@Novena
and SSMC@CGH. Dr. Ng is also Visiting Physician for
national athletes in Singapore Sports Institute at Singapore Sports
Hub.
Dr. Ng served as team physician for Team Singapore during the recent
2014 ASEAN Games in Incheon, South Korea. He was appointed by the
Singapore National Olympic Council as Chief Medical Officer for Team
Singapore in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar. He was also Medical Director
for Triathlon and games physician during the inaugural 2010 Youth
Olympic Games as well as the 2009 Asian Youth Olympic Games. Dr. Ng has
served as Medical Director for numerous international local sporting
events such as Singapore OSIM International Triathlon and Asian Mixed
Martial Arts Competition. In the Singapore Formula One Grand Prix, Dr Ng
serves in the race track medical support team as extrication team
leader and driver.
Currently, Dr Ng serves in the Football
Association of Singapore Medical Committee as the Deputy Chairman of
Football Workgroups. He is also the men and women’s rugby team physician
for Singapore Rugby Union.
Dr Ng is the Training and Education Director for Exercise is Medicine
Singapore (EIMS). As part of the credentialing of EIMS, Dr. Ng has been
certified by the American College of Sports Medicine for three
certification programs, Clinical Exercise Specialist, Exercise is
Medicine Credential Level 3 and Physical Activity in Public Health
Specialist. Dr. Ng has presented and shared EIMS initiatives and
research papers in numerous international and regional conferences in
countries like the USA, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Philippines. He is also
part of the Sports Medicine teaching faculty of EIMS and Sing Health
Family Medicine Residency program to train Family Physicians.
Dr. Ng’s areas of special interest include sports injury,
pre-participation screening in elite athletes and weight management.
During his school days, Dr. Ng participated competitively in sports such
as Tae Kwon Do, Athletics, football, handball as well as rugby. His
favourite leisure sports activity are wakeboard, kite surf and
snowboard.
