Profile

​Dr Kiew Sieh Yean is a Consultant with the Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department at Singapore National Eye Centre, and is also a subspecialty fellow in the Glaucoma Department under the Advanced Clinicial Specialist Program. Her current practice includes the management of glaucoma, general and comprehensive ophthalmology, and cataracts.

She completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, graduating with Honours and the Keith Medal in Surgery in 2011. She subsequently trained under the ACGME-I (American Council of Graduate Medical Education – International) accredited SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Program, and obtained her Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2017. She qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (London, United Kingdom) in 2018, attained Ophthalmology Specialist accreditation and was admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2019.

Dr Kiew has received multiple academic and service awards, including the SingHealth Outstanding Resident in Ophthalmology award twice in 2016 and 2019, the Joint Commission for Specialist Training (JCST) gold medal award for her performance in the Ophthalmology exit examinations in 2019, as well as the Richard Fan Medal of Ophthalmology for outstanding residents in 2019. In 2014, she was the recipient of the prestigious Crombie Medal from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London. Throughout her career at SingHealth, Dr Kiew has been involved in various leadership and administrative roles: she represented Ophthalmology on the SingHealth Residents’ Committee in 2016, served as the Chief Resident for SingHealth Ophthalmology from 2017 to 2019, and she is an alumnus of the Singapore Chief Residency Programme.

Dr Kiew has authored two book chapters and multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals, and presented her work at various regional and international conferences. Her current research interests include investigation of conjunctival wound healing, inflammation and fibrosis, including the search for novel therapeutic targets to modulate the post-surgical scarring response following glaucoma surgery. She is currently co-investigator of a study exploring the use of a novel antifibrotic drug in animal models of glaucoma filtration surgery, which was awarded the SNEC Health Research Endowment Fund (HREF) grant in 2019.
