LATEST - Issue 148 (May/Jun 17)
Smoking has been found to harm nearly every organ in the body and diminishes a person’s overall health. In this issue of CARING, we talk about quitting smoking (page 18) in conjunction with World No Tobacco Day on 31 May. The relationship between asthma and smoking is also a significant concern among healthcare professionals, as smoking has adverse effect on asthma. Learning how to prevent and manage its symptoms can help you lead a full and active life (page 14).
We also speak to Dr Ang Tiing Leong, Chief and Senior Consultant of CGH’s Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, about viral hepatitis, one of the most common causes of chronic liver disease worldwide (page 10). It is associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality, and is sometimes referred to as a silent epidemic – it often goes undetected
Besides sharing information about hepatitis, we also shed light on chronic nerve pain. This condition can rob a person’s ability to enjoy life, maintain important relationships, fulfil responsibilities or perform well at work. People suffering from it may feel that they have lost control of their life. It is important for patients to know that with proper treatment, the pain can be alleviated (page 2).
We hope you will find this issue a rewarding read!
