The Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department in Singapore’s Changi General Hospital provides 24-hour service for trauma and non-trauma surgical and medical emergencies. We have a multi-disciplinary trauma team to provide one-stop quality care, comprising trauma surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, physiotherapists, medical social workers, pharmacists and nurses.
Our A&E attends to the sickest patients first. Priority of care is not based on the time of arrival. This is done by a process called triage (meaning "to sort") and based on the severity or potential severity of the patient's condition that could worsen if not treated early.
As part of our heightened surveillance and to reduce risk of infection, there is to be no more than
one designated visitor per patient.
When visiting the A&E, please bring along your Identity Card, Work Permit, foreigner pass or passport if possible. For patients who do not have these documents with them when they visit the A&E, treatment will proceed and family members are advised to bring their documents as soon as possible.
The number of visitors will be limited to one visitor per patient. Visitors to A&E will be given masks during their stay.
Our A&E attendance fee covers basic investigations and services. Non-standard services will incur additional charges. The A&E attendance fee is not covered under Medisave.
The waiting time depends on various factors including the seriousness of a patient's medical condition and the number of patients at the A&E. If your condition has been assessed to be serious at triage, you will be attended to earlier.
As this is a very busy A&E, patients with non-emergency problems or minor ailments will have to wait longer to see the doctor.
Please click here for a list of non-emergent situations.
If you fall under the non-emergency group, please be advised that you may have to wait an average of 4 hours to be attended to by a doctor.
If you require non-urgent medical attention, you are strongly advised to visit your GP or
a nearby medical care facility. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
