Changi General Hospital is a major teaching hospital in Singapore with more than 1000 beds. There are ten major operating theatres and four-day surgery operating theatres. The Department of Anaesthesia and Surgical Intensive care provides perioperative anaesthestic care for patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, ENT surgery, urological surgery, neurosurgery and other subspecialties.
Our department has a regional anaesthesia interest group comprising of members who are enthusiastic in performance and advancement of regional anaesthesia techniques. Many members are regular invited faculty for international workshops/ conferences. Our department has organised and hosted several ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia workshops, including the first ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia cadaveric workshop held in Singapore in 2013. The department is also actively involved in the regional anaesthesia module of the local residency program.
We offer a regional anaesthesia fellowship program to fellows who have completed their basic medical degree and postgraduate training in anaesthesia. The aim of the fellowship is to provide exposure and hands-on experience in performing basic to advanced regional anaesthesia techniques, including perineural catheter techinques. Fellows will be rotated to the block room or operating lists with more opportunities to perform regional anaesthesia techniques. Fellows will also have an opportunity to participate in research projects and teaching activities. With an experienced teaching faculty and an average of more than 3000 peripheral nerve blocks performed annually, the fellow is expected to receive ample exposure and teaching during their attachment with us. The duration of fellowship is 12 months. A six-month program can be considered if the fellow would like to combine it with other fellowship programs offered by the department.
Candidates must possess a basic medical degree; and a postgraduate medical qualification
registrable with Singapore Medical Council; and; OR are in an anaesthesiology training program recognised in Singapore and passed the final examination of FANZCA or FRCA. Candidates must also fulfil other criteria as stipulated by Singapore Medical Council for
Conditional Medical Registration; and meet
English Language proficiency requirement of SMC if the medium of instruction for the basic medical qualification is not in English Language.
