Clinical Associate Professor Frederick Koh, Consultant, Department of Surgery, SKH, shared about Sarcopenia - a progressive state of muscle loss in both mass and function, and explained on the causes and impact of the condition on our body including frailty and surgical outcomes. Prof Koh leads the Surgical Prehabilitation for Comprehensive Enhanced Recovery (SUPREME) programme at SKH, which strengthens patients’ muscles, physical resilience and tolerance before they go for surgery. He shared that surgical complication rates have dropped from about 15 to 1.6 percent in SKH and patients on SUPREME programme increase their chances of going home independently, skipping rehabilitation in a step-down facility, by more than 10 percent
