Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Test

The Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) accounts for a significant portion (60% - 70%) of our daily energy expenditure. To manage your weight effectively, it is important to know your RMR so as to plan your caloric intake and use accurately.

The conventional way of determining your RMR is to estimate through equations that are based on the average person in the general population. This results in error as no two individuals are the same.

To take the guess work out of weight management, you can undertake a RMR test to get your own specific measurement.

How is my RMR tested?
  1. Lie down and relax
  2. Breathe in and out of a breathing mask for gas analysis
  3. The test will take approximately 30 minutes
RMR pre–test checklist

  • Avoid heavy meals, caffeine & alcohol 5 hours before the test
  • Light snacks may be taken 4 hours before the test
  • Do not exercise at least 2 hours before the test
  • Do not perform vigorous resistance training the day before the test
  • Do not consume any nicotine (smoking / chewing gum) 4 hours before the test

Note:

Please arrive 20 minutes ahead of your scheduled time so that you can settle down and relax
