Patients and families are kindly requested to bring
their inhalers and case sheet to the counselling sessions.
Asthma education protocol is used as a standard way
in documentation and guide to counselling and educating
the patients. The basic patho-physiology of asthma and
aims of treatment are taught, along with symptom recognition
and warning signs of worsening asthma.
Our support group also explains the
use and care of inhalers and asthmatic devices such
as a spacer or aerochamber, and Peak Flow Monitoring.
They also discuss allergy trigger factors, asthma medications
and an Emergency Management Plan, in the event of a
severe asthma attack. Improvement of the home environment
is also addressed, as environmental factors play an
important role in asthma management. Coping with asthma
emotionally, psychologically and physically is difficult,
but with the assistance and advice from our support
group, we aim to make asthma management simple and worry-free.
