Clinic
The Breast Service is headed by Dr Tan Su-Ming, Senior
Consultant, female breast surgeon. The staff is largely composed of lady
doctors and nurses. We offer a one-stop comprehensive breast service in
the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of all breast conditions. Our
wards, operating theatres and radiology suites are fully equipped with
state-of-the-art technologies and equipment.
All tests are conducted (when necessary) on the same
day of the doctor’s consultation and results available within two
days(depending on the type of tests). Professional Breast Care nurses
are at hand to provide emotional support.
We believe in patient-focused management, where comfort and convenience
of our patients are our utmost concern.

screening and assessment
We offer a range of breast screening packages that are specially tailored
for women of different age groups.

- Women’s Basic ($125):
For women above 40 years old
Includes 2 consultations with a female doctor + mammogram
- Women’s Comprehensive ($205):
For women above 40 years old
Includes 2 consultations with a female doctor + ultrasound breast +
mammogram
- Ladies’ Breast Screening ($125):
For women below 40 years old
Includes 2 consultations with a female doctor + ultrasound breast
- Women’s Deluxe Screening ($1368):
For women with other risk factors
Includes 2 consultations with female doctor + mammogram + MRI breast

Surgery for
benign breast lumps
We treat a range of benign breast condition:
- Breast lumps
- Nipple discharge
- Breast infection / abscess
- Gynaecomastia
- Assessment of abnormal mammogram and/or ultrasound
Surgery for benign breast lumps is done as a day surgery
procedure without the need for admission to the hospital.. The wound is
covered with a waterproof dressing, allowing the patient to bathe immediately
after surgery. The stitches (if any) do not require removal as they are
made of absorbable material.

Mammotome®
biopsy for breast lumps
Mammotome® is
a special device that allows for a breast lump to be removed with a needle
through a small incision. It is performed under local anaesthesia. However,
not all lumps are suitable for Mammotome® biopsy and the doctor will
assess and advise you.

Surgery for
breast cancer
We offer a comprehensive range of surgical options for breast cancer:
- Mastectomy
- Lumpectomy
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy
- Axillary sampling
- Axillary clearance
Patients requiring surgery for breast cancer are admitted
on the morning of their surgery. Recovery from breast cancer surgery is
usually fast, thus patients are allowed to consume food after surgery.
Most are well enough to get out of bed the next day and can be discharged.
They will be reviewed at the clinic three days later. The Breast Care
nurses can be contacted anytime should patients have any problems after
discharge.

Breast
reconstruction
Breast reconstruction is to create a breast form to replace
the breast tissue after mastectomy. It can be done immediately after a
mastectomy (ie one operation) or at a later stage. There are many different
types of reconstruction:
- Implant reconstruction
- TRAM flap reconstruction
- LD flap reconstruction
The doctor will assess and advise the most suitable type for you.

Positive
appearance service
For patients who do not want reconstruction, they can
still look good by wearing a specially designed brassiere and breast form.
This service is available in our Breast Clinic. A trained female expert
will individually assess and do a fitting for the patient in complete
privacy.

Breast
counselling service
At CGH, we have two dedicated Breast Care nurses as well
as a Breast Support Group made up of nurses, volunteers and breast cancer
survivors. Psychiatrists and psychologists are available should the patient
need them.

Support
group for breast cancer patient and family
Various free events are conducted throughout the year
for breast cancer patients and their families to attend. These include
group therapy, workshops on how to cope with cancer, our “Look Good,
Feel Good” programme by Estée Lauder experts share tips on
how to look good while going through chemotherapy and many more.
