It’s the surgical remove of the tonsils through
the mouth, under general anaesthesia. IS IT
HARMFUL TO REMOVE THE TONSILS?
Even though tonsils are part of your immune system,
having them removal doesn’t cause any upset at
all. In fact, Tonsils are often a source of throat infection.
WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS AFTER TONSILLECTOMY?
- Sore Throat
Normally present after the operation, sore throat
usually lasts for a few days. Frequent gargling, painkillers
and a soft diet helps relieve the pain. Ice-cream
is especially effective.
- Risk of bleeding
Immediately, and up to a week after the operation,
there may be some bleeding. But your doctor will take
care of it easily.
You should contact your doctor at once, or visit the
A & E department complications occur.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF TONSILLECTOMY?
- Improves chronic or recurrent
sore throat in sufferers.
- Alleviate obstructive problems,
such as snoring, in people with large tonsils.
- Removal a source of
infection for upper airways and digestive tract.
