Preventing Spread of Influenza A (H1N1)

CGH cares about our patients and visitors and we are committed to providing the highest quality of care in a safe and welcoming environment. We are concerned about the spread of Influenza A (H1N1). Because we care about you and all of our patients, we have implemented the following visitor policy:

  • At the A&E, only ONE accompanying person is allowed per patient to minimise the risk of cross infection. However, patients with history of travel to affected areas, are to be unaccompanied and will wait in the Isolation Area.

  • Patients and visitors who have visited the affected areas in the last 14 days and are unwell should alert our staff. We urge these visitors NOT to visit patients and TO seek medical attention.

  • Visiting hours will be strictly enforced. Our visiting hours are from 12noon to 2.00pm, 5.00pm to 9.00pm. Only FOUR visitors (including children) will be allowed per non-influenza patient at any one time. Children below 7 years must be accompanied by an adult. No visitors are allowed in Ward 17, our isolation ward.

  • All visitors will be screened before they are allowed to enter the hospital. Please inform our staff if you are feeling unwell or have fever, and have been overseas in the past 2 weeks.

  • All patients and visitors are reminded of good hand hygiene practices. This include cleaning hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub (available in patient care areas) and covering your mouth when you cough and sneeze.

  • If you are advised to stay at home for a recommended period of time due to your medical history and symptoms, the hospital has prepared this leaflet to help you care for yourself and to provide a safer environment for your caregiver.
Thank you for your help in protecting our patients.
