CGH Welcomes its New Neighbour
CGH is happy to welcome its new
neighbour, Saint Andrew’s Community Hospital (SACH) after
some 2 years of construction. SACH received its first patients
at the new facilities on 18 April 2005 when SACH transferred its
inpatients from the old hospital at Elliot Road to Simei Street
3.
SACH
is the first community hospital to located next to an acute-care
general hospital. This is to facilitate better stepdown care for
patients after the acute care at a general hospital. The management
of CGH and SACH came together for a commemorative ribbon cutting
ceremony on 15 April 2005
to open the skybridge at Level 2 that links CGH and SACH.
With an 11-storey building, the new
SACH has 200 beds and 90 per cent of new hospital beds are subsidised.
The new hospital will provide rehabilitative care and convalescence
for patients
after the acute phase of treatment at a general hospital.
“With SACH located just next
door, we look forward to closer collaboration in terms of faster
patient transfers to stepdown care and referrals back to acute
care at CGH if necessary”, said Mr T K Udairam, CGH CEO.
Indeed, the close proximity brings
greater convenience especially for elderly patients who often
require longer rehabilitation and step-down care. Madam Ho Ah Kee, 75, was
the first
patient transferred from CGH to SACH via the sky bridge for further rehabilitation
on 20 April 2005.
