participation eg. lucky draw freebies for new gym sign-ups and free 1-month gym memberships for renewals.

An active sportsman, Hai Yang also organised the first cluster-wide SingHealth Table Tennis Tournament on 13 Dec 2003. It is a constant challenge to come up with new healthy lifestyle programmes to attract staff to participate. Hai Yang formed sub committees consisting of staff from other departments to brainstorm on new sports and healthy lifestyle activities eg. pilates, Qigong etc.

A WHP programme cannot succeed without the support of top management. Mr T K Udairam, CEO has been very supportive of the hospital healthy lifestyle activities. He extended the use of CSMC to the staff and allowed the staff to exercise under the supervision of a quality fitness instructor during their lunch break and after office hours.

He also supported the formation of CGH’s Peer Support Programme, a staff psychological support programme which was the first of its kind in Asian hospitals in 2003. Walking the talk, Mr Udairam leads the mass exercise for ACTIVE Day annually, takes part in “Test Your Limits” and is frequently seen at CGH’s WHP activities despite his busy schedule.
