Personalised Health Advice Online
New One-stop Health Site

A user friendly website to keep you healthy.

The public can now receive personalised health advice online. They can have their lifestyle assessment and receive personalised health advice without visiting a hospital or clinic. Just click on to http://www.fitforlife.com.sg or surf through the hospital's website http://www.cgh.com.sg. This service is free and is available on the internet.

This new programme is developed by Changi General Hospital (CGH) together with NTUC, Department of Community, Occupational and Family Medicine (Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore) and the National Health Education Department (Ministry of Health). Ms Yong Ying-I, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology and the CEO-designate of the Information Technology and Telecommunication Authority (ITTA), launched the pilot version on 9 September 1999 at the CGH Techmonth Open House.

Mr Liak Teng Lit, Chief Executive Officer of CGH said : "We developed this programme for our staff's healthy lifestyle programme last year. We then showed this programme to some of our friends from other organisations, and they were excited. At that time, we were just able to use the programme to do health screening for a small number of organisations. In fact it was Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, the Director of the Healthy Lifestyle Unit of NTUC who suggested that we put the programme on the web so that more people can benefit from it."

Surfing through the programme, the user will be able to determine whether he is engaging in lifestyle activities which promote health and prevent diseases. Said Dr Wee Wei Keong, Deputy Director of Clinical Services and a key member of the programme development team : "Cancer, heart attack and stroke share common risk factors such as obesity, lack of exercise, smoking, hypertension and diabetes. These are all lifestyle related disease conditions. This programme seeks to measure how well you are leading a healthy lifestyle and provide customised advice for you."

Users simply need to go through a questionnaire and input their height, weight, blood pressure, blood glucose and blood cholesterol measurements into the programme.

A personalised report will be generated with specific advice on the person's health and general information about major lifestyle related diseases. As a one-stop health site, users can also test their medical knowledge through a quiz and gain access to other top health websites through the Hot Links. Nevertheless, this website does not substitute for a doctor, as its main function is to provide members of the public with health information.
