| Two
of Changi General Hospital's senior physicians were conferred with the titles
of Emeritus Consultant recently. Professor Lee Yong Kiat and Dr V Sivagananaratnam
are both well-respected within the medical community and recognised nationally
for their public contributions. |

Professor
Lee Yong Kiat
Professor Lee Yong
Kiat was Head of the Department of Medicine in our predecessor hospital,
Toa Payoh Hospital from 1971 to 1988.
Throughout his illustrious
career, Professor Lee held numerous other key appointments. Among these,
he was the Medical Superintendent of the Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Kandang
Kerbau Hospital. He was also appointed as Clinical Professor of Medicine
by the National University of Singapore in recognition of his outstanding
contributions to the teaching of medicine. In recognition of his contributions
to the nation, Professor Lee was awarded both the Gold and Silver Public
Administration Medals and the Long Service Medal.
Professor Lee continues
to practise as a Visiting Consultant in Changi General Hospital.

Dr
V Sivagananaratnam
Dr Siva is one of
Singapore's pioneer anaesthetists. Together with a few other anaesthetists,
he established the practice of anaesthesia in Singapore in the early 60s.
He also pioneered the technique of thoraic epidural band block for postpartum
sterilisation and was involved in the establishment of cardiothoraic and
neuro anaesthesia.

He helped to set up
the Anaesthesia Department in Toa Payoh Hospital in 1971 and remained
its department head till 1992. During this time, he had also done over
10,000 obstetric epidural - a subject of many papers presented locally
and internationally.
Throughout his career,
Dr Siva was actively involved in teaching junior anaesthetists. He served
as Chief Examiner for the Primary Master of Medicine Anaesthesia Examination
from 1974 to 1985. Besides teaching his juniors, Dr Siva continued to
learn and obtained the FRACS in 1974, making himself a qualified general
surgeon. For his public contributions, he was awarded the Public Administration
Silver medal in 1983.

Dr Siva continues
to share his expertise and experience as a Visiting Consultant in Changi
General Hospital, Singapore General Hospital and Singapore National Eye
Centre.

This title is
conferred upon a retiring doctor in recognition of his distinguished
service, teaching and research contributions to the hospital and
the community.
Criteria

Minimum
15 years of service in CGH with significant contributions to
the specialty, department and hospital including appointment
as headship |
| 2. |
Appointment
would add value to the image and reputation of the hospital

Demonstrate
the desired values of the profession and serve as role model
to younger doctors |

Respected
and recognised by their peers as being pre-eminent in their
areas of practice in Singapore |
