JCI Re-accreditation - We Got It!

After a gruelling five-day audit, CGH attained JCI re-accreditation on 25 April 2008

The official word is out - CGH is JCI-certified on 25 April 2008 for another three years!

This good news came through to us after a gruelling five-day audit for our triennial JCI re-accreditation that started on 21 April 2008. The JCI re-accreditation is part of the hospital’s continual quality journey to meet international standards in clinical quality and patient safety.

Since June 2005 when CGH attained the JCI accreditation, we have continually upheld clinical quality to be ready for re-accreditation. Intensive preparation work in the hospital for the re-accreditation started as early as a year ago. We were ready when the two JCI surveyors – Dr Albert Vogel and Dr Nathan Erteschik – descended on our hospital premises for the audit. Accompanied by separate groups of our staff, the surveyors toured our facilities, interviewed staff, and reviewed documents and medical records among many other detailed checks conducted.

Though physically and mentally taxed, our staff kept their spirits high and positive throughout the entire time. The audit ended on a high note when lead surveyor Dr Vogel, announced to a fully packed auditorium on the final day that he was about to deliver "the best report we (and Dr Nathan) have ever seen in our surveys".

On the whole, we had met fully all of the qualifying standards, and were recommended for re-accreditation.

Some noteworthy quotes from the surveyors:

To all levels of our nurses:

You're a great group of professional people.

To our operations team:

They've done a beautiful job with the building; it's functional, clean and efficient.

To CGH as a whole:

It's the best report we have ever seen in our surveys.

JCI Singapore Practicum

Prior to the audit proper, CGH held a JCI Singapore Practicum at the Training Centre, Lecture Room from 2 April to 3 April 2008. It was attended by over 40 foreign participants and CGH staff, including three JCI surveyors - Ms Ginger Whitlock (Team Leader & Administrator), Ms Barbara H Prichard (Nurse), and Ms Jeannell M Mansur (Special Medication Management).
