Changi General Hospital was certified to comply with ISO 9002:1994
standards in 1996. We adopted the ISO framework because it provides
us with an opportunity to systematically review our work processes and
standardise documentation. This ensures that the quality of care and
service provided to our patients is consistent and will be continuously
improved upon.
Changi General Hospital also extended its care beyond its hospital
walls. Besides caring for the community, we embarked on an ISO 14001
journey as a commitment to care for the environment. It was certified
ISO 14001 in November 1998. The hospital has continued since to implement
several energy, water and waste minimisation programs.
In September 2002, Changi General Hospital integrated the Quality and
Environmental management system and was also certified ISO 9001:2000
standard. It is another affirmation of our quality improvement commitment
and a milestone in our quality journey. This revised standard is more
customer-focused and gives us an opportunity to review what we have
been doing and evaluate if there is a better way to do things. All policies
and procedures were updated.
We see this ISO certification not as an end, but another step in our
quality quest as ISO is just an engine for continuous improvement and
our hospital management and staff are ones driving it.
