Dietary and Bowel Preparations
Specialised radiological examinations may require dietary and bowel preparations, which are important for the success of the examination. Barium studies require fasting for 6 hours (sips of plain water are all right) and a low roughage meal (no vegetables, plain rice & clear soups) the night before.
If your examination is in the afternoon, have a light breakfast of plain bread and tea / coffee without milk. Barium enema patients will have to insert a suppository (provided by the department when making appointment) on the morning of your examination.
You are requested to visit the department 3 days prior to the examination for complete medical instructions and medications.
