Clinical Trial Facility |
|
|
CTRU occupies an entire ward with a floor area of 835 sq m. It is an air-conditioned, cosy unit that can house 20 clinical trial subjects for overnight stays. It is a perfect setting for the conduct of Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacogenetics and Bioequivalent studies.
This facility was developed in consultation with Prof Edmund Lee, Clinical Pharmacologist, National University of Singapore.
The essential equipment and facilities in place include refrigerated centrifuge, -70oC freezer with Uninterrupted Power Supply and auto-paging system, Cardiac Telemetry System, Synchronized digital clocks in every room, ice-maker and ice-shredder.
Other equipment such as EEG telemetry can be set up depending on the requirement. This facility operates in accordance to ICH GCP guidelines, with a group of qualified and experienced research nurses. Manpower can be increased according to the demand. |
Research Laboratory |
In line with Singapore’s efforts to promote life sciences research and development, CGH opened its new research laboratory on 29 January 2002 to further facilitate clinicians and fellow researchers engaged in research activities. With this addition, the total floor area of the research laboratory has expanded to more than 170 square metres in size.
Within this laboratory, research into the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), Chlamydia, Mycoplasma and other pathogens have been performed using the latest detection techniques, including enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques.
Notwithstanding the research into infectious diseases, explorations into the fields of serology, clinical epidemiology and the culture and detection of Helicobacter pylori have also been conducted. This research in particular has further elucidated the role of this bacterium in peptic ulcer disease and gastric carcinoma.
Our researchers at CGH have been carrying out collaborative research projects with other local and international research entities. Their efforts have been recognized and their works published in various international journals. |
