Changi General Hospital, Singapore (CGH) believes in harnessing information technology (IT) to provide better, cheaper and faster service for our patients.
IT Firsts
CGH scored a number of firsts with our IT innovations to improve patient care and service.
To help our patients make more informed decisions about choice of wards, CGH introduced a revolutionary Electronic Financial Counseling (eFC) system in January 2008. This system generates estimated bill sizes for all four ward classes and helps us to advise patients and their relatives on their eligible Ministry of Health Means Test subsidy band.
IT also helps our medical team work better. CGH was the first hospital in the world to pilot the Mobile Clinical Assistant (MCA) in an Accident & Emergency department environment in 2007. MCA is a wireless and portable technology that enables doctors and nurses to more effectively manage the hectic workflow in the fast-paced A&E.
CGH was the first hospital in Singapore to launch an online hospital pharmacy. Now, anyone can buy and receive pharmaceutical products and medical supplies from the comfort of their own home. Similarly our patients enjoyed the convenience of using CGH’s award-winning Interactive Patient Guide (IPG). IPG uses multimedia tools and video clips to educate the public about common medical procedures and conditions.
E-Services
CGH’s website, www.cgh.com.sg , is a convenient way for you to access our many e-services and to find out more about our clinical and specialist services. You can also find Myhealth.sg on our website. Myhealth.sg is an online, one-stop health & fitness training portal with interactive tools offering personalised fitness, weight management and mental wellbeing programmes.
CGH Goes Digital
CGH has used IT to automate many processes in the medical and allied health departments, as well as digitizing our medical records and reports, doctors’ orders for tests and prescriptions and X-rays. X-rays and mammograms in CGH have gone filmless, due to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACs). All these digital improvements mean cost and time savings for our patients, faster turnaround time for results and greater patient safety.
To shorten your waiting time, we have installed self-registration kiosks at a few of our Specialist Outpatient Clinics for you to register your appointment and to collect your queue ticket. Other automated processes include the robotic automation of pharmacy dispensing and electronic Dietary (e-Diet) System. The e-Diet System won the runner-up prize at the Asian Hospital Management award (IT category). Patients' meal orders are taken using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), improving efficiency and accuracy in meal delivery.
Patients’ records and reports are now stored in a way that is easy for authorised personnel to access in CGH and across the SingHealth healthcare cluster. This enables quick and accurate access to essential medical information, helping us to deliver the best treatment for our patients. Your records and X-rays can also be checked by your bedside, thanks to the 156 Bedside Medical Workstations available in the wards and A&E Department.
Doctors in CGH were the first in SingHealth to use the Computerised Physician Order Entry (CPOE) system. CPOE enables them to place clinical orders (such as radiology or laboratory tests) and outpatient medication prescriptions electronically. CPOE gives our doctors ease and speed in consultation and our patients a higher degree of safety, due to CPOE’s built-in checking features.
