ISO 9001, 14001 & OHSAS standards

Changi General Hospital was certified to comply with ISO 9002:1994 standards in 1996. We adopted the ISO framework because it provides us with an opportunity to systematically review our work processes and standardise documentation. This ensures that the quality of care and service provided to our patients is consistent and will be continuously improved upon.

CGH also extended its care beyond its hospital walls. Besides caring for the community, we embarked on an ISO 14001 journey as a commitment to care for the environment. It was certified ISO 14001 in November 1998. We have continued to implement energy, water and waste minimisation programmes.

In September 2002, CGH integrated the Quality and Environmental management system and was also certified ISO 9001:2000 standard. It is another affirmation of our quality improvement commitment and a milestone in our quality journey. This revised standard is more customer-focused and gives us an opportunity to review what we have been doing and evaluate if there is a better way to do things. All our policies and procedures have been updated.

We have also been certified BS OHSAS 18001 since 2004. It is the internationally recognised assessment specification for occupational health and safety. We adopted this framework as it ensures and promotes a safe and healthy working environment for our staff through the identification and control of our health and safety risks.

We see ISO certification as an engine for continuous improvement with our hospital management and staff as the drivers. These ISO certifications are not an end in themselves but steps in our quest for higher and higher.
